18 pics. A brief stopover in Bangkok on the way home to Canberra. We stayed at the Pathumwan Princess hotel, and found that we could exit from the second floor straight into the legendary MBK shopping centre with 8 floors packed with 2,000 shops, and through the centre to the National Stadium Skytrain station. We managed to buy tickets from the ticket machines and made our way to the Chao Phraya River, and a “hop-on hop-off” all day ticket on the Chao Phraya Tourist Boat. We hopped off at China Town to try to find lunch but ended up back at Ratchawong Pier in a lovely (air-conditioned) restaurant overlooking the river. Just beyond our furthest stop we could see a dragon boat race in progress. In the evening we went to the Siam Niramit Cultural Show with lots of special effects, lasers, fog, thunder and lightning, music dancing and acrobatics, elephants and a river flowing across the stage. A gripping show, never a dull moment. After a lovely relaxing stopover in warm and inexpensive Bangkok, our two-month trip was over all to soon. It would be great to go back to the start and do it again, but there are always new places to go and new things to see.
