Thousand Islands, May 2014

Click for 18 pics in Picasa. The Thousand Islands, actually 1,864 islands straddles the Canada-U.S. border in the Saint Lawrence River, near the small city of Kingston in Canada. We cruised the islands and saw houses that completely covered their individual island, and some with a house on one island with a bridge to their boatshed on another island. The border winds between the islands, never across any island.

There is a huge castle on one island, built by one George Boldt, immigrant self-made hotel magnate of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The castle was abandoned in an almost completed state for 75 years following the untimely death of George’s wife Louise. Please google “Boldt Castle” if interested, we were too close to capture it on film.

A beautiful peaceful cruise on a foggy day.

Next stop Toronto.
